Church Women United

Church Women United, founded in 1941, is an ecumenical movement of @ 25 million  women (protestant, Roman Catholic and Orthodox) organized in over 1200 state and local units in the US and Puerto Rico.  It is racially and culturally diverse and invites all church women interested in peace and justice to meet each other several times a year for worship, fellowship and program focusing on the needs of families everywhere.  It is biblically based with shared belief that the Holy Spirit acts in behalf of women and children throughout the world.  It is recognized as an NGO by the United Nations.

In the Kearsarge, Ragged, Sunapee area, Mary Gutsgell serves as the local President with a board of 2 members from most of the churches in Danbury, Andover, Bradford, Sunapee, New London and Wilmot.

Meetings rotate around the churches with the hosting church organizing a light luncheon preceeding the program: the meetings thus last from noon to 2 PM on a Friday afternoon in November and May.  This unit has dropped the March meeting over the past 2 years for various reasons.

St. Andrews has had many women interested in CWU over the years and we need 2 members to carry on this opportunity for ecumenical lay ministry.  One planning session, one lunch/program twice a year is a light assignment and it is a wonderful group.

It is a joy to meet the women, interact ecumenically in a small group, carry through the program that comes to us from the national office---tailored to our needs here--- and see the participation.  It is a simple ministry, appreciated by all and worth while.

Plan to attend LIVING IN THE LIGHT, May Friendship Day on Friday May 6th.

Noon lunch, 1 PM Celebration at the Kearsarge Community Presbyterian Church (KCPC).

Please call the church if you plan to attend the luncheon.

One additional person is needed to read a few short paragraphs of  very nice text.

Please call Nancy Edwards-Cogswell at 526-6766 for more information about CWU, representing St A and or helping with the May 6th service.
