Phillips Brooks partnership
Phillips Brooks (1835-1893) served as Rector of Trinity Church, Preacher of Harvard University, and Bishop of Massachusetts, and his legacy lives on via scores of community projects run by Harvard students out of Phillips Brooks House. Its Summer Urban Program engages 800 youth in ten intensive summer camps. One of these camps was founded in 1981 by Jay MacLeod who is now Rector of Saint Andrew’s.
The Phillips Brooks Partnership brings inner-city children to the New London area for outdoor adventures. We have hosted groups of middle schoolers from low-income housing developments for day trips and for overnight camping at Mt. Sunapee State Park. We have climbed Mount Kearsarge, swum and barbequed at Elm Brook Park, and been challenged by a ropes course. When it rained the New London Historical Society has hosted the kids. |
